Masks of Hackney
Since 2015 I have worked in the theatre industry as a costume supervisor and maker.
Due to the Covid situation, all my work got put on hold and I wasn't sure how I was going to fill my days ...
Masks of Hackney was originally created in response to a number of articles I read about the rise in plastic pollution from disposable face masks.
I realised I could find a way to make good use of all the fabrics I had collected from various productions and travels, and get back behind the sewing machine!
All masks are handmade to order using natural fabrics and all the fabrics used are remnants so there is less fabric waste. New designs are added regularly.
I also make tote bags and linen handbags, fabric bookmarks, pot holders and one-off items that use up the odds and ends in practical and pretty ways.
